Biography

 

Judy Schomper born on 15-10-1956 in Amsterdam.

Growing up in ‘t Gooi.

Judy was brought up with jazz-music in her childhood.

When she was 10 years old she got her first violin, she has a natural feeling for the instrument and from then on she nourished her talent.

When she was 14 years old, she played for the Dutch master-violist Herman Krebbers and a few months later she was accepted on the  conservatory in Amsterdam.


In tbe beginning she was studying classical music, but in 1976 she played in the Ricciotti Rebels, a street pop -orchestra who was playing new (pop) music from young Dutch composers.


In the same time period she started the band Flairck with the brothers Visser and Peter Weekers.

They became famous very quickly and they had a lot of success with their first record “Variaties op een dame’.


Judy likes a lot the great classical composers, especially Schubert, “Because he is so down to earth and at the same time in heaven with his musical feelings”, but at this moment she likes to play modern classical French music like, Satie, Debussy, Ravel, and especially the Russian composer Prokofiev.


In 1979 she received her master-degree as a solo violinist  on the Sweelinck conservatory in Amsterdam.  She got an award to study two years of chamber-music.

When she met her partner, guitar player Hans Hollestelle, in 1983, she learned about rock and roll. “It is the down to earth musical feeling of this time and open for everyone”    

She integrated it in her interpretations.

Her ideal is making new instrumental music based on rock, and classical influences with new sounds and the modern technology of this time in their music studio in Laren.


Judy plays on an english Hart violin from 1896 and a spanish violin made by Ramon Oliveras Blanch and she owns a couple of electric violins among a plexiglass electric violin made by Guy Davies.
